Walgreens officials cut a ribbon at their new store in Yorktown Heights on Thursday.
Town officials joined with Walgreens executives to mark the transformation of a formerly vacant lot, most recently used as a staging area by the New York State Department of Transportation, into a 19,000 square-foot drug store at 3320 Crompond Road. The store’s soft opening was in early February.
“Yorktown looks at our corporate partners as part of our team,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman during a short ceremony. “They took a dirt pile that was weeds and construction debris and turned it into one of the best Walgreens I’ve seen. It’s amazing and we thank you for coming into our community.”
Walgreens is the latest national retailer to celebrate a grand opening in Yorktown. On February 14, the value retailer Five Below celebrated its grand opening at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center.
Five Below occupies part of the former Kmart store at the shopping center. A T.J. Maxx store opened next door in November and a Michaels craft store is expected to open in March. A pickleball sports center expects to open there in late August or early fall.
