Breweries, Amusement Centers, and Indoor Recreation Added TO MALL ZONE

In an effort to revitalize commercial spaces and adapt to shifting retail landscapes, the Town Board has approved a zoning amendment expanding the permitted uses at the Jefferson Valley Mall.

Under the newly updated zoning rules, the mall complex can now welcome craft breweries, amusement centers, and indoor recreation facilities.

The expanded zoning scope is designed to facilitate growing interest from entrepreneurs looking to establish modern experience-driven businesses at the mall. Among the floated commercial uses are children's indoor trampoline parks and golf simulators.

“This zoning change allows us to adapt to modern commercial trends and keep our primary retail corridors vibrant," said Supervisor Lachterman.

The updated permitted uses at Jefferson Valley Mall reflect a nationwide transformation of suburban shopping centers. As traditional department store anchors and legacy brick-and-mortar retailers vacate large square footage, mall operators across the country are increasingly turning to experiential entertainment, fitness centers, and family play hubs as anchor tenants to drive foot traffic.

With the new zoning rules in place, Yorktown officials expect prospective recreation and entertainment tenants to finalize lease agreements, bringing fresh economic activity to the Jefferson Valley shopping corridor.
