Yorktown Completes $3.4 Million Parks Improvement Initiative

The Town of Yorktown has successfully completed a multi-year capital investment initiative that has delivered $3.4 million in improvements to parks across every corner of the community.

From 2021 to the present, this comprehensive effort has focused on modernizing facilities, improving safety, and expanding recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.

Among the largest investments in the initiative were $738,000 allocated for the renovation of the Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Facility; $726,000 to replace the turf at the popular Woodlands Legacy Fields; and $463,682 for extensive work at the Granite Knolls Recreation & Sports Complex, including upgrades to its playground, lighting, fencing, and safety padding.

The initiative delivered upgrades to multiple parks:

  • Granite Knolls: The park now features six refurbished pickleball courts with new, high-quality surfaces, fresh paint, durable 8-foot-high fencing, and overhead lighting for night games.

  • Blackberry Woods: The Town purchased a new children’s playground, complete with a colorful jungle gym and a swing set, all atop a soft surface designed to minimize fall injuries.

  • Patriot Skate Park: Workers disassembled, stripped, and refitted ramps with a new composite sheet. Some ramps received new internal support layers, and all metal parts were repainted and sealed.

  • Railroad Park: Fully renovated basketball courts offer better playing experiences.

  • Chelsea Park: The girls’ softball field received a new batting cage and refurbished dugouts.

  • Downing Park: New, energy-efficient LED lights and a resurfaced parking lot.

“The Town Board is unwavering in its work to elevate the quality of life for our residents,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “These park improvements are a tangible sign of our dedication to providing top-tier amenities that our community deserves.”
